Migrate data to Google Workspace with mail clients

In this method, your computer is the central point to replay data from your old account (Zimbra) to new account (Google Workspace). To do that, you need to install 2 accounts on the same mail client and copy data from old account to new account manually. Your computer must be in online state while your data is copying, this period can be from some hours to days.

To avoid you migration being corrupted because of network connection or server problems, divide you data into groups and copy them one by one, for example: copy the first 6 months of data first, and so on, ... You can do it at any time you like, no need to be finished before 01/8/2018.

Migrate data with Thunderbird
  • Set up dual accounts on your Thunderbird with instruction here
  • Create a label on Google Workspace (Example: Zimbra) to contain emails from Zimbra
  • Start Thunderbird, browse the old account for emails, select them, right-click ->Copy to ..., select the destination folder (Zimbra) on Google Workspace account. That's all.

Migrate data with Outlook

It is not recommended to migrate data with Outlook because of the software performance.

  • Set up your client with instruction here
  • Create a label on Google Workspace (Example: Zimbra) to contain emails from Zimbra
  • Start Outlook, browse the old account for emails, select them, right-click -> Move...->Copy to Folder, select the destination folder (Zimbra) on Google Workspace account, click OK

The migration is started.
